Main menu window freezing
 

Hi,

everytime i start TFD, the game hangs on the main menu window = the mouse freezes/don't make any move. Game installation works fine incl. the last game update, without problem. Can anyone help me? Or ideas?

Are you on a laptop or desktop?

what windows system you using?

there is a Compatibility mode you can use maybe that will help

1.) right click-on the shortcut select> "properties" then click-on Compatibility tab> check the box for "[X] run this in Compatibility mode for" select windows Xp"

2.) click-on "ok" below

that's if your running vista or newer windows system

if you have software running in the back ground that maybe making it hang a bet too

all so can hang if you need to defrag to or ram is running low being hug up by other items running

Turn off 'desktop composition'.

Ahhh! I've seen this.
If you have a CD version of the game, sometimes the CD data fails to load because of the Southbridge speed/interface.
Try a Virtual CD Rom of TFD Loaded in a virtual drive to load the CD data in time.

no it's the "10th Anniversary" Version, so i don't need a CD to start/play the game. If i do a "Compatibility mode problem check" i get the error message like on the picture. These "EARLYERR.txt" is correctly in the TFD Folder.

Assuming you have Windows7, it's default trouble shoot compatibility mode settings are to (XP service pack 2)
I'll have to install the game again to check but I think manually setting(XP service pack 2) or (Windows 98) compatibility with desktop composition turned off was the fix, try it for now and I'll get back to you on it.

Have a look in ghw.txt it may have logged some info there.

been super long time not 100% on this but seem to recall that

but what i recall the no cd patch needed the EARLYERR.txt to work that was added to the zip file for download

My CD version of DFTFD had to be updated by downloading 'dftfd_update_091902_xx.exe' from the novalogic webstore. I could not do it through the game interface.

My edition of the game accepts XP service pack2 or Win98/ME compatibility modes to run without warnings.....sry :dontknow:



Trying digital version next...

Well it seems after the update is applied to the digital version you need to have a CD Version in the drive or single player and Novaworld is disabled!!
Does anyone know why? or why you need the update if it does this??

So you don't need any cd patch or update, it's from official nova ftp site with latest version.

Found the problem


If you use the windows troubleshoot compatibility wizard it fails, you have to do it manually and it's fine with no errors

Played online OK

but remember: the link i provided is just the installation, you still need your original cd key to install and play fine.

If using 64bit windows I remember it doesn't like to go in Program Files (x86)

cannot read earlyerr.txt

Runs better in

C:\Program Files\Novalogic\Delta Force Task Force Dagger

or
C:\Program Files\Games\Novalogic\Delta Force Task Force Dagger

or
C:\Games\Novalogic\Delta Force Task Force Dagger etc...

I will test it today and write here (on monday) what happened. I think "Program Files (x86)" could be the solution. Thank you very much for your help and have a nice weekend.

I've used now "C:\Program Files\Novalogic\Delta Force Task Force Dagger" and it's still the same Problem: Mouse is freezing on the Main Menu Window but for example main titel music plays normal.
