No one but the hosting company has access to cpanel/ftp... Eagle Eye is trying to get it fixed, and from what I gather it is hard to get a hold of abullet

Steve 01-03-2009 11:07 AM

atholon 01-03-2009 11:07 AM

yep. host upgraded php to php5 and the code had to be upgraded.

Don't know what is causing the current issue.

DFB seems to be going down a lot. It looks really in-active nowadays. :(

ShArP 01-03-2009 04:29 PM

yea i honestly haven't been there for a while, and every time i try to go there its down

Eagle_Eye 01-03-2009 05:38 PM

Seems the host had a hard drive failure during the backup. Even the backup is lost.

The last backup I have here is 10 months old, and, I don't know if that's a copy of the one that Bullet fixed the forum on.

So, basicly, if DFB gets back up, 10 months will be lost..

OK, you say why do I only have an old backup??

Well, long story as a short version..

A few years ago, A.Bullett had some personal problems and vanished for over a year. I was left holding the bag..

As problems arose, I had to do some creative thinking to solve them.

The site was hacked, I asked a hacker how the undo what was done, then Bullet turned up, and repaired the code the hacker was using..

I talked the host into getting me CP access, I now had total control of the site, but, I'm just a gamer/mapper/modder, not a coder.

I took a backup of the site. then, the host changed to a new version of php. For a few months, the site worked OK, but, the forum was down. I asked the guys who wrote the original forum code to help, since I knew them anyway, but, they didn't want to rewrite the forum code for me.

I finally found a gmail for Bullet, who went through the forum code, and made most of it work again...

I host most of the major dpwnloads at my own sites, because the DFB site has limited space and bandwidth, but, really, DFB has been hanging on by the skin of it's teeth for 3 years now.

Bullet is still AWOL, Major Headache still owns the domain, he's the one who had arranged free hosting at freaks network a few years ago.

I've been having a break, playing other stuff, and only said to Iceman the other day that I should take a new backup of DFB, well, too late..

I still have dfreload, and that's where I've been putting most of my effort, since I knew sooner or later, DFB would fall. That's a pity, cos DFB has the best custom map database code ever written..

DFReload uses all free code, so it's easy to maintain..

sounds like you deserve some credit there m8, it's actually pretty sad to see DFB go down like this :/

SilentTrigger 01-03-2009 06:37 PM

Indeed, not that I've been there much but I liked it :)

Hellfighter 01-03-2009 07:16 PM

would be great some how NovaHq and DFB join up in the new TGHQ.net

but that maybe to much to much for aBullet taste

its better then loosing it totally all them maps

or DFB join up dfreloaded.com with as one were bigger dfreloaded.com

Scott 01-03-2009 09:46 PM

That seems to be the way most sites go down... you think that if ab knew he would not be aroud any longer they would give you complete control over everything.. I know I would give the site/domains over to the other admins here if I no longer had the time for it. Why does he continue to hold on to it?

atholon 01-03-2009 10:03 PM

That's true. :( sad man.

Hellfighter 01-03-2009 10:07 PM

pride in his handy work maybe

Eagle_Eye 01-04-2009 03:42 AM

Well, I had to basiclly beg to get control, but, there's only so much I can do..

I don't do this for the credit Steve, like you guys, I do it because I like to support the community, and give a little something back..

I have all the code from the site, If I can find a coder.. (Hint Hint Scott), I'd like to see if I could incorporate the Map Data Base from DFB with my site at DFReload.

Maybe we can work something out. I'll send you a pm when I get home on Tuesday. All thoes maps going to waiste would be a shame :(

Eagle_Eye 01-05-2009 02:29 PM

Well, I finally have access back. I have to access the damage now..that will be when I get home from work.

Looks like most of the files are there, I haven't checked the map files yet, or the database itself.

There's some damage somewhere, it may take me a little while to isolate it.

I'll keep you all informed.

Thanks EE. :)

atholon 01-05-2009 03:33 PM

If you need help, feel free to ask :)

Chrispy 01-05-2009 04:46 PM

I reckon dfreload.com would be a good site as for transferring all of DFB's maps, etc.

Currently super moderator on that site, helping out whenever I can.

I reckon the next thing DFReload needs would be something like DFB's map submission system. That would rock. :)
