Delays in Posting Map Uploads

Just curious as to why maps I've uploaded on Friday might not be showing still on the following Tuesday? I understand the admin wants to control whats being posted but four days does seem a bit long. If I'm needed to give more information so the staff can make whatever decision making process they go through faster, then please, let me and the other mappers know. If you're short staffed, then put out a call for help. I know serveral people skilled in mapping that would be glad to help out if you need someone to help sort through maps that are waiting for approval. Thanks in advance.

I generally upload maps for all our EXM squad members onto serveral sites. One of NovaHQs affiliates, DFBarracks seems to have the easiest program for uploading maps. You follow three simple steps and presto....the maps uploaded and ready for folks to take a look at. For the most obvious reasons, I would rather put all our maps here, because numbers don't lie. NovaHq gets many more hits on maps then any other site I'm familiar with. I think that if we can help the staff here process the uploads in a more timely fashion most map makers would be more then happy to try to do so. I guess what I'm saying is we mappers enjoy making maps for all the various DF games and want to share our creations with others that enjoy playing them. When it sometimes takes so long for a map that was loaded to NovaHq to appear on your data base some might get discouraged and go elsewheres. As Deadman said, if you need help with part of your operation, let the community know, I'd be more then happy to roll up my sleeves and give a hand and I'm sure so would many more folks.

hiho thanks for the messages :)

sorry guys i know we suck at this. :dancingwt i usually check these 2 or 3 times a week but i had a busy weekend.

just for your info :) :

Scott might be able to throw a bit more light on this but this system was in place to protect users and to make a better quality map database for the community.

#1 we could check the files uploaded were safe before anyone downloaded them.
#2 we could check that all the map files needed were included.
#3 we were reviewing the maps before release so ppl knew what to expect.

i think what we didn't expect all those years ago was the number of maps we would ever get submitted, but hey it's difficult to complain about that huh? :D

another problem was that we all grew up to, we all like a few games and that but timewise everyone got screwed, jobs, life took over :/ and reviewing maps became impossible (which was another thing that got our members annoyed :*( ).

so now you're still thinking why don't we get ppl in like you said?? well we did, and it helps for a month or 2 and then they lose interest, it's like map overload or something, usually they just go completely awol probably had a map breakdown or something :insane: :sad5: also it means making someone a site admin which is not something we can do lightly no matter how enthusiastic someone is, the site means too much to us, i mean we have enough problems keeping Matt out of trouble with the admin features

so what now then? :ohnoes: well you might or might not know we are going to be relaunch the site, with new features including automatic map validation and a few other things you will like.

you are very much welcome to make some suggestions as to features you would like in terms of adding/submitting maps or browing the maps or anything at all relating to a df community site (you can post or send me a private message if you wish).

anyways sorry for going on a bit, thought you guys deserved a reply :trink: , i try to check but please feel free to give me a kick or note to wake me up. thanks for helping us keep the df community active :)

I've been busting Steve's chops about the map section for 6 years now... ;)

I'm about to dump some maps on the database, and am expecting them to be rather dusty by the time they get approved :)

Thanks very much Steve for your timely response and also for getting those maps posted. I appreciate your taking a few minutes to let us know what is going on and how the map process works. We'll keep it in mind for the future and I'll certainly consider using the private message if I think I can contribute anything worthwhile to you and the staff here to make the process on the relaunch site more efficient. Thank you again.

skinny killer 07-09-2009 02:40 PM

yes, waiting on maps and sending PMs to mods to upload the maps is getting old. :( and I wish they would play the DFX2 maps and DFX1 maps and give them ratings. :( I've always enjoyed seeing their rating or knowing if I made featured map. Now we get nothing :(

Scott 07-09-2009 03:27 PM

F5

M*O*B 07-09-2009 03:33 PM

I think everyone enjoys getting a higher rating on a map they've spent hours sweating over, but to me, and I am being serious here, I've come to enjoy the ratings, but think of them a lot less then when I started to make maps. I'd much prefer to have comments posted on what someone liked and disliked about one of my maps. I talk with several other folks that like making maps for BHD and they shake their heads on how a map they've made, gets 1, 2, or even 3 hundred downloads, and nobody has a bloody thing to say about it one way or another? How's that work?...So I suppose it's our lot in life, to toil over our creations knowing someone, somewhere, is peeing and moaning how'd they'd make one even better, if only they knew how.lmao. F5....F5...got one in the oven waiting to go folks....anytime admin has a moment to check it out.

M*O*B 07-09-2009 03:33 PM

Thank you very much Scott.
