you should only need port forwarding if you're hosting.
what router do you have, it probably has a firewall built in so you can dump your windows one.

Actually, I was wrong. DF2, LW, and TFD all work - so does BHD. DF1 HOWEVER, does not work.

How do I find out if my router/modem has a built-in firewall?

I'll play around and see what I can do...

BTW, it's a D-Link DSL-502T Generation II.

you said you had windows firewall - it should have asked if you wanted to allow it access the internet....

for the novalogic games I have never had to open up a port for playing, just for hosting.

I would avoid using DMZ - just opens you wide up for attack, may as well just turn the firewalls off :D

When DF1's not on the firewall exception list, it does ask if it wants DF1 to access the net. I had it on the exception list months ago - I also recently removed it and put it back on to see if it works.

I also recently got a SYSDUMP.txt when trying to join - I tried both NW and Public servers. I also turned off the firewall and tried joining but no luck.

Hosting a test server didn't gimme a black screen either... It went straight to the game...

Non-Nova games like Halo Trial and that all works too I'm pretty sure - as well as ALL Nova games EXCEPT DF1... :D

DF1's a pure classic - I'd love to get it going online... :)

Weird can`t join or host?

Like they said Port Forwording is part of the hosting end of things so you shouldn`t have to worry about that.

I had this problem once but I don`t remember how I resolved it. I will try and think of something.

They did another patch for DF1, that could be the problem.

Also testing in DMZ is a good way to tell if it is the hardware firewall blocking you. Set comp for DMZ, test it. if no go then it is not firewall related. if it works then the problem is narrowed down. either way you can remove from the DMZ.

for df1 you need to forward the ports to play aswell. I dont know why but you do or you will get the black screen. That should be under port forwarding. Depending on the router, you should be able to forward them to your computer. If it does not list your computer but has a space for ip address then you need to set a static ip address to your computer and then forward the ports to that address.

by the way dmz mode is usually a bad idea. This puts you outside the firewall. In your case you also have windows firewall(i dont trust it myself) so therefor enabling your computer in the DMZ would not totally leave you open.

I can't find a port forwarding button anyone in the config page. Only:

For DMZ, it's disabled and the IP address is 0.0.0.0 - do I enable it and put in the current IP I have?

worth trying i guess, at least it rules out any firewall issues.

enable DMZ and put your LAN ip address in.

ok i looked at the manual.. if its correct then do this.

At the top select advanced.
On the left select virtual server, you should now have a page with 2 boxes. and some other stuff
Now make sure to select the Ip address of your computer.
In the left you will see Delta Force, highlight that and then click the bottom between the boxes that says add.
Now click the green check mark that says apply.
Restart the router. Now you should be good to go.

As a note to above.. You may want to use the Lan Clients tab to setup a static ip through the router. Using that tab will make sure that the router always assigns your computer the same ip address. This will help with keeping your network from having ip conflicts without reseting your dhcp ranges with setting a static ip addess in windows.

Damn! I set the Virtual Server thingy to add Delta Force and then applied and unplugged and plugged back in the modem. Then when I tried to get to the lobby it glitched up numerous times and then finally I tried and nothing. Then I realized for some reason DF ain't on the add list on the Virtual Server page! I remembered I had added it!!!

And for the DMZ, what's my LAN IP? I tried the normal IP but couldn't work...

you will need to set a static ip in windows and then go to the lan clients tab to make sure it shows as a static and if it does he will need to add it so that the router does not try to assign it to another computer and then set the virtual servers page to that ip address. That should take care of it for you. If you contact your tech support they may be able to walk you through it or if we can figure out a way to talk besides the forum ill walk you through it.

Static IP you have to know the DNS for your ISP.

You go into network options > right click on the network adapter > Click properties > Select TCP/IP > Click properties > Put dot next to use this IP address. Then you assign it a local ip like 192.168.0.10 or something like that subnet mask is 255.255.255.0 default gateway generally is 192.168.0.1 but you can check in IPCONFIG to make sure. Then you put in the DNS addresses from your ISP. :) then use DMZ on that IP ;)

I have to say though, this is a bit complicated. It's just that I don't want to screw anything up, since I'm unfamiliar with this sort of stuff.

I should've asked the neighbour when he was here last time, but I didn't want to waste his time or anything.

i am gonna add you to my msn.. I have a degree in networking and such and know exactly what to do :) As a note above. You do not always need to know the ip address of the ISP's DNS server. This can help, especially when trouble shooting but most routers and such today will forward or act as a dns server. This means you can simply place that router address in your primary dns and be good to go ;) Also a note to above is thats how you set a static ip to the machine but you should remove that from your dhcp pool or in this case he can use the lan clients tab and it will make sure that his dhcp server in his router does not assign that address to a computer. Either way ill try to catch you on msn chrispy. Oh my msn will say shorty@ :huh:
