ladders uuuuuuuugh

ok new to this type of mapping
ummmm when you see a ladder that has modular in front do i take this that they can be joined together and the others can not ?

Steve 06-04-2003 04:45 AM

not sure what you mean but u can stack all ladders on top of each other

tuffstuff7 06-04-2003 06:47 AM

ok like one ladder's description is "wooden 24m ladder"
then you have 3 that are like "modular 8m ladder"
ok ,
when you say modular it is usually like part of something and seeing as there are no ladders between 8m and 24m i was wondering with the 8m modular are you able to make a 16m ladder out of 2
thanks

what you need to do is set the Z-value and you can stack them. in dflw i made a ladder that was made up of like 10 reguler ladders.

tuffstuff7 06-04-2003 03:18 PM

ok could you elaberate more the z value would that be int he attributes?well on second thougth i think i get aht you are saying by the first one take the high point of it and that ould be the z value of the next?

yes.

and the Z-value is in the general info. if its like dflw med, then it will be in the top left conner.

tuffstuff7 06-05-2003 08:39 AM

ok i am getting what you are saying now but what plane factor in heigth is relevant to the plane factor of the second ladder you are tyring to add ex:
x=***
y=*****
z=*****
az=****
does one equal the height of the original? the that would be the base of the second...................right?

a pink punk 06-05-2003 02:34 PM

you need to play arond with it IE test or map if the lader is to low ras it up if it to high lower it. i cant give the ext high do to the fact that i do not have DF:BHD.

tuffstuff7 06-05-2003 03:41 PM

ahhhh ok well thanks i have a map i am working on its just when i piece 2 ladders the player cannot go up, will have another go at it thanks punk.................errrrrr that did not sound good did it ? ooooook pink errrrrrrrr hmmmm PP ?.........well no short cut sounds right
thanks pink punk lol

I am an expert ladder builder in DFTFD...some title huh...anyway due to the fact that the stock ladder is slanted at an angle if you will set the ladders pitch to 352 then copy it and past next ladder exactly on top of last and change the z value to second ladder to 4 it will make a ladder about twice as tall. You repeat the process over and over adjusting the z values in increments of 4 to get the desired height. It doesn't have to be 4 but works best for me.

Also I did a 26 ladder stack once to the top of a tower. If anyone tops that let me know so I can make it higher!!! lol

a pink punk 06-06-2003 04:54 PM

i did one that went to the TOP of the game. there was a platfrom at the top and a amory, so when you got up there you could nade the poor folk below.

note: this post is a complet lie, so dont belive it. but i am makeing a ladder like as we speak. lol.

lol well like i sadi i am new to this type of map making and in mohaa you build everything .....i mean everything minus the tnaks tress etc so this placing something already made is a challenge also
thanks man

y don tu just use the 3d veiwer so much simpler just click the ladders then go in to 3d view then set the z values for each ladder

and stop ya complaing but i see where ur coming frm

LawDog 06-19-2003 12:39 PM

how about you explain this 3D viewer to me again. I still have not seen a viewer for dagger where I can view all the pieces to see what the hell I am looking at.

Please feel me in on this

R U sure you didnt' speak out of place...maybe thinking of BHD

a pink punk 06-19-2003 05:17 PM

he must be talking about the wireframe view. it is something that you can download and it lets you look at your maps in 3D with out have to leave the med. i think oyu can get it at www.DFArena.com it called something like C4 med for ____

If you want a 16m ladder, use a 24m one and sink 8m of it into the ground using the "3D Wireframe" option. In case you don't understand what I'm talking about, this is how to do it.

1. Click the building to highlight it and then click the ladder so that that's highlighted as well.
2. Click the "3D Wireframe" button, hold down Shift while you hit the down arrow to reduce the height of the ladder. You'll see the ladder will be highlighted in yellow against a grey outline of the building you're placing it against.
Make sure that the top rung of the ladder sticks up above the level of the roof too. This will cause a player turn around so that he can climb down the ladder if it's too high to jump from the roof to the ground without dying. :)
