There was me thinking it was dead.
Now I'm a right old fart me. Was having a chat at work and moaning about the state of hip hop.
Girl at work made me listen to some crap about how tough some misogynistic big spender thought he was and how cool that made him. Tried to explain how rap started out as serious social commentary and I had a right moan about the good old days when Chuck D was telling it like it is with hardcore urban poetry. Sure there is a place for music for pure entertainment but it seems to me the market is saturated with nasty crap about about spending silly money and inconsequential shagging. Boring Boring Boring. And this morning my radio alarm woke me up playing this:> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AuK2A1ZqoWs And suddenly all seems right with the world agin. Intelligent, protestive genius. Listen to me young uns, THAT is what this **** is all about. |
Damn I've been censored by the man. Time to rise up and kick it to 'em

I used to listen to only rap.. till I started hearing the same song over and over from different artists. Your completely right Z, the rap today isn't anything like how it was even 5 years ago.
Good vid |
This is the song that everyone is talking about at school lol. Good vid. :)
The only song that was talked about so much at school before that was Soulja Boy (YouTube it), which is pure BS... |
Yeah that song actually got really popular in the US
|
It's rare you get a song that works on so many layers.
It's a protest, a cynical view of progression or mirror held up to the choices we have. Love it. Oh and for those that can't get through on that link its Flobots and the song is Handlebars. There's two versions. If the rap starts with augmented vocals as if through an old fashioned radio than that's the better cersion. |
