Acti/IW scandal

What is going on?! And also, possible hints at a subscription route and an action-adventure CoD in 2011? It really seems like Activision want to milk the heck out of CoD... Anyways, less about that and more about what's happened with the two guys fired from IW...

.Simon. 03-03-2010 04:26 AM

Wow.. Its all going on at the moment! I would much rather see them leave the Call of Duty series where it is than start subscriptions and ruin the game.

Bustin 03-03-2010 11:29 AM

I hope they don't take IW off the COD series all together...that would be pure stupidity.

Chrispy 03-03-2010 12:07 PM

Whether IW is staying or not, I do have a feeling they're going to be a different company with those two individuals no longer working there...

Quote:

Activision's investigation allegedly included a six-hour interrogation of West and Zampella in a windowless conference room. The plaintiffs state numerous Infinity Ward employees were also questioned and some even brought to tears during the interrogation. When West and Zampella refused to turn over their personal computers and cell phones, Activision's attorneys allegedly stated the pair was being insubordinate.
Quote:

Activision has adopted the corporate strategy of forcing Messrs. West and Zampella to sue for their pay -- in the hopes of either getting away with not having to pay them anything, or maximizing its leverage to reduce that pay. Such actions are not surprising, given that Activision is run by a CEO who has been publicly quoted as believing that the best way to run a videogame studio is to engender a culture of "skepticism, pessimis, and fear," and who prefers to pay his lawyers instead of his employees.
Sounds horrible. :(

Bustin 03-04-2010 10:38 PM

Sounds to me like Activision just threw away a billion dollar brand.

.Simon. 03-05-2010 04:12 AM

If it's true then yeah, I've lost respect for Activision. It's a shame to see something like this happen after all of the great games they have released over the years.

Bustin 03-05-2010 09:56 AM

There is a 3 page write up on GI that talks about the papers filed in the suit. There was a memorandum of understanding signed by activision and infinity ward.

While this document wasn't released, it is believed that in it Activision gave infinity ward full rights to any COD game that would take place after vietnam. My take is this does allows activsion to make COD titles through treyarch still as long as they do not run in to vietnam-modern era. Copyrights prevent infinity ward from using Call of Duty in their titles, but my take is that they can make a sequel to COD6 and just call it Modern Warfare 3.

:*( thats really sad, i loved the Mechwarrior series, Cod Series, exc. but this???? This is a waist of Activisions time.

.Simon. 03-07-2010 07:53 PM

Any recent news Chris?

Analysts/professionals discuss what's happening:

Given Vince and Jason's track record for CoD, I reckon if they were to start their own company, it'd attract the attention of not only their former colleagues at IW but also lots of publishers.

Anyways, from what I read in the lawsuit, IW seemed somewhat interested in doing new IPs. It makes me wonder... :)

Hellfighter 03-07-2010 10:57 PM

will thats sucks, i hear how much people love the game and them two gone!

have to wait and see how things turn out in the next line up when its release! will it be super great or will it fall on its face into history.

players are the best judge of a game's, word goes faster then the adverts do

Chrispy 03-07-2010 11:50 PM

Infinity Ward will definitely keep producing quality games - I don't know about the other companies though.

Lead engineer and lead MP designer leaves...

I think in terms of poking the finger at Activision it's a good thing. I wonder if these guys will start a really kickass IP?

And I think the lawsuit thing's happening in June...
