11. How to use the Remote Admin Tool (rat.exe)
================================================== ====================

The Remote Admin Tool, or RAT, gives the host full administrative
powers of Joint Operations: Typhoon Rising game servers even if they
are on a separate computer. With the RAT, a remote administrator has
unlimited universal power, including the ability to adjust game
options, add and remove maps, punt players, and "shake up" game-play.

Before you can use RAT's substantial power, the server must have
certain files properly configured.

Login information is set in ADMIN.CFG. It looks like this:

//NAME PASSWORD RIGHTS
JoeUser yoyoyo 3F

Names in this file are not case sensitive but passwords are. Rights
are explained in the comments of the ADMIN.CFG file. Don't forget to
change the login information when you enable remote access.

ADMIN.CFG can also be edited to restrict the IP addresses and domains
which can connect to the server. Multiple restriction entries are
supported. By default, the restriction looks like this:

ip_restrict = 192.168.*

A port for the remote administrator must be set in GAME.CFG. By
default, the line is:

remote_admin_port = 0

When the port is set to 0, remote access is disabled. To enable, set
any open port. Numbers between 38000 and 65000 are recommended. For
example:

remote_admin_port = 40000

Once your login has been established and a port has been opened, a
remote administrator must run the RAT executable and login. When the
RAT executable is run, a window will display a command prompt. At this
prompt type "OPEN [IP]:[PORT]" where [IP] is the server's IP address
and [PORT] is the port specified in ADMIN.CFG. For example:

OPEN 192.168.1.1:40000

You will be asked for a login and password, in this example "JoeUser"
and "yoyoyo." You will be notified if the login is successful. Once
you are logged in, press the ENTER key at any time to get a list of
available commands. Experiment with these commands to unleash the
power of the RAT.

He still doesnt understand it any chance you can contact him or me on ts or a messenger?

atholon 03-29-2005 04:14 PM

Ok... looks like what you need to do is first find the ADMIN.CFG file. That is located in the C:\Program Files\Novalogic\JointOps directory. Double click on it, choose select the program from a list if you get that. Then choose notepad.

In note pad find where it says: ip_restrict = 192.168.*
Erase it so it says: ip_restrict =
Then fine where it says:
//NAME PASSWORD RIGHTS
//JoeUser yoyoyo 3F

Type in an admin name and password as well as 3F.

So it looks like this:

//NAME PASSWORD RIGHTS
//atholon sucks 3F

Now save it.

Find Game.CFG in the same folder.
Open it and find:"remote_admin_port = 0"
Now type in whatever number you want there. Save.

Now you go to RAT and type in: OPEN xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:yyyy
Where XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX is the host's IP and the YYYY is the port you are choosing to use.
Press enter and it should connect.

If you are using a DSL or Cable modem then I believe you need to make sure you forward that port. Contact your ISP for help.
