DF2 breakthrough

We all know that DF2 is the hardest game to mod for being that is it server side not client side. However hardly anyone knows there are 2 files that are ONLY client side.

a .bms file and a df2plyr.sav file

These are shared by everyone in a server...
Using the latter file Scarve's were developed.

Using this samefile I am on the way to developing uniforms.

Now before you call me a cheat listen up!!!

The way this works, example. I design my uniform as spiderman... I go into a 50 player Nova server... I see 49 players in their df2 normal uniform, and they see me as SPIDERMAN!

Reason... they loaded my plyr.sav file which reads me looking like spiderman, I loaded their which shows them in their fatigues.

(Note the spiderman thing is an exaggerated idea to explain how this works...)

This is almost complete. I have gotten to the scarf level, and warpaint level. I am working on full body modification that everyone seens on you, and you see what they are wearing.

Now for the good news! I have also developed a way for everyone to carry 2 guns legally  Using this same plyr.sav file This is in beta test. I need some help from some people to get this thing finished.

I would appreciate some contacts from Terranova as they may be able to tell me what I did wrong. I assure you it works, I can carry a SAW and an M4 legally.

Buurman I need you to contact me as well, please.

It does becase you can easily cloak yourself

Matt 07-29-2003 12:16 PM

i believe editing any game files is a cheat.

you can make a "uniform" to make yourself blend in with a dark spot in a map, making the black dot basicly not exsist. or u can make yourself completely white for the snow maps.

your heart is in the right place bustin, but i dont think it is a good idea.

i have never seen black dots in DF2

Have seen them dflw, dftfd, dfbhd ? and my video card is way updated still see them lame dotes hate that alot mostly only see it when some good snipers are out there a long way out trying to hind but that black dot give them away all the time.

Matt 07-29-2003 03:30 PM

Not a cheat people... stop making yourself sound silly. Skins are cheats.

Trilogy I am well aware of what could be done, I'm not even going to release it to anyone unless I can make sure that those options aren't possible. With DF2's engine and systeming it is easy to cheat something. If that is the case, well this idea disappears back and no one but the people who already can make scarf's for DF2 would figure it out. That being the outcome, I'll send the info straight to Deadbolt to prevent this from ruining gameplay.

u can make the guy invisible!
not a cheat if someone did that?

these alterations to the file can give the player an advantage.
i think in anyone's book that is cheating.

You sound silly saying changing the way your character looks is not cheating when at the same time you say skins(which can change your character looks) are cheats. I think you should stop talking now.

Bustin 07-30-2003 09:17 AM

Proto if you knew anything about working with df2... A skin is where you see 15 other people wearing the same thing giving you the advantage in a map.

SB no you can not make your player invisible. As that would be cheating. Deadbolt is going to know exactly what I found out.

What I think is if your going to do it, set up a public server, and just run in it there. I wouldn't do it in stats if I were you. You could be banned to easily....

I dont care if it is a cheat. That sounds quite interesting.

halo 08-08-2003 10:45 PM

I disagree with you on that one. Desert Combat for Battlefield 1942 is one hell of an edit to a game file. But it's not a cheat, because everyone playing has the mod. If everyone has the mod, everyone has the same advantages.

Also, in DF2 the "uniform" the characters wore depended on the map layout. There were no black dots in DF2. And for the snow maps in DF2, the uniforms switched to white anyway.

Black dots suck. There aren't any dots in bhd, I think that is one of the reasons so many people like it more.
