looking for a software to transfer data from one HD to another HD

looking to see if there a free software were i can get to transfer all the data from a 40GB HD to a 300GB HD, without reinstall everything into the new HHD.

Maxtor as a item but it only do 250GB HD only my is over that limit. so i am looking around but have not found anything i can use.

i hope i can get the 300GB Maxtor "Max-Diamond 10" running right in 2-3 weeks from now, when i get the PCI Controller added to my system soon.

so now i am fishing to find something i can use to transfer one HHD to another one with redoing every thing over again.

information on the tool Link: http://www.maxtor.com/portal/site/Ma...&downloadID=58

you can just connect them together and transfer all the info.. it works for me all the time with no problems, and does not hurt the info.

you mean copy and past them into the new HHD thats will work?

you will have probs if you're planning on transferring windows and progs. i.e. you cannot just copy paste without probs.

you can clone the hdd to another using ghost or similar. thats the best way

i would just keep windows and your progs on the other drive and just move other stuff to the new hdd

I'd do what steve suggested.. just incase your 40gb crashes you won't loose everything your bigger drive..

Panther you may have deal with a lot of HHD and others as will, but do they run better in the long run say like page file is more and other thing if i instill programs into it will they run better as will on that big HD 300GB then the 40GB do to the page file setup on it?

it run at 7200mhz 16mb

slave 300GB

for the 300GB i still need to get the PCI-Controller for it, so windows see it is a 300GB and not as 137GB. right now its on back order.

at this time its shows as 127GB for some reason.

I'm not quite sure what you are asking about..

Are you asking if you install programs on your 300gb drive will it slow down? (maybe a little bit.. but all hdd's will). It just depends on how much data you got on it..

If you run windows from the 40gb drive and install your programs to your 300gb drive they will load a bit faster though.

step 1:

Step2

C: drive is the 40GB
F: drive is the 300GB

Looks ok to me.. alot of people say to set it lower if you have a lot of ram.. I have 2GB and set it at 200mb and didn't notice anything from what windows had it at default. but I think that's because windows will kinda manage it for you.

have no pagefile on your main / boot / progs drive.

if your comp tries to use it, your comp will lag / freeze / jerk around and its frekkin annoying.
