Call Of Duty 3

That's right! It's now official... Call of Duty 3 will be a Next-Gen console title ONLY, and is scheduled for release Fall 2006. Furthermore, it is being developed by one Treyarch Games rather than Infinity Ward. We'll see how that affects the game's delivery. Here is the HIGH-DEF trailer from the PS3. Enjoy!

Leave your comments below... Personally, I think it looks awesome. But I am not so comfortable with it being a Next-Gen console title only. Technically they haven't said "Call of Duty 3 will be Next-Gen only" but their last annuncement that GameSpot posted implied the next title would be for Next-Gen consoles. Well I'm assuming CoD3 is their next title.

I'll see what other information I can dig up.

GameSpot has posted news that cites the next Call of Duty title as being a Next-Gen console title only, stating it has no plans for a PC release...

Apparently, Activision was looking at those numbers. In today's post-earnings conference call, Activision chairman and CEO Bobby Kotick specifically noted that the next Call of Duty game, due in the company's third quarter of this fiscal year (October 1, 2006 - December 31, 2006), is "not a PC product, it's a console product and it's all next-gen."

I certainly hope this doesn't mean we loyal PC fans have to wait extra long for the next PC installment... The quoted except from the Gamespot article would imply that, based on the earnings from the Xbox 360 sales, Activision wants to focus on the consoles from now on. If that's the case, shame on them for turning their back on the audience they used to be dedicated to; PC gamers.

It is important, however, to recognize that this is likely another Activision decision, just like PunkBuster. Infinity Ward is under a contract, and cannot violate it or cut it short, without sustaining heavy fees I would imagine. That doesn't mean they cannot protest the decision, however.

Also note that, the word on the "street" has the article mis-interpreted. Nowhere does Gamespot mention it is Call of Duty 3 that is being developed for Next-Gen consoles only. They merely state it is the next title. So it could very weel be like Call of Duty: Finest Hour, which was a console-only title.

We'll keep you posted as more news is released...

About the COST of the Ps3 ( sony = greedy sods, take ya money and run with it )

Report: PS3 to sell for $399, cost $494 to make
Merrill Lynch Japan predicts Sony will lose more than $1 billion on hardware during its next-gen console's first year on the market--a sum it may not be able to recoup.

According to the latest issue of Japanese magazine Toyo Keizai, Merrill Lynch Japan Securities has recently calculated an analysis that the production of a single PlayStation 3 console will cost Sony approximately 54,000 yen to make ($494), as of its initial release in 2006.

Merrill Lynch Japan estimates that the machine's main components--namely its Cell chip, RSX, and BD-ROM drive--will cost about 11,000 yen ($101) each. After adding the other electronics that will be used in the PS3, the machine's production cost goes up to 54,000 yen.

Given that Sony's PS3 will face stiff competition from Microsoft's Xbox 360, the chances that Sony will release its console at its production cost is slim. Under the assumption that the Xbox 360 is expected to sell at around $299, Merrill Lynch Japan predicts that Sony will sell each PS3 at the price of 44,800 yen ($410) in Japan and $399 in America. That would mean Sony would suffer a loss of more than 130 billion yen ($1.18 billion) during the first year of the PS3's release.

By comparison, the PlayStation 2 cost 39,800 yen ($364) in Japan and $299 in America when it launched in 2000. During its first year of release, Sony Computer Entertainment suffered a loss of 51.1 billion yen ($458 million), but it recovered the next year with a profit of 82.9 billion yen ($759 million), followed by 112.6 billion yen ($1.03 billion) the year after.

sony playstation 3

As we quickly approach E3 in May, many people are eagerly anticipating more details on the Sony PS3. Since Sony burst onto the gaming scene with the original Playstation, they have been the company to beat in the console wars. As a matter of fact, while the rest of Sony has struggled, the Playstation division has been a cash cow that the rest of the company has relied on. With Microsoft having already launched the Xbox 360 to overwhelming demand, many are wondering what the counter from Sony will truly look like, hype set aside. It wouldn't be exaggerating to say that Sony is betting a large hand on the Playstation 3. It's not just the Playstation division that's making the bet, either. With the next-gen Hi-Def format war still raging, Sony is betting a substantial portion of it's future on Blu-Ray. While most analysts agree that HD-DVD will not likely win, some analysts are openly wondering whether Blu-Ray will as well. If it doesn't, Sony could be in serious trouble.

Isn't This Thing Supposed to Play Games First?
In order for Sony's Trojan Horse strategy with Blu-Ray to work, the Playstation 3 has to succeed as a gaming console. As a game console, the Playstation 3 has to deliver on several fronts. In pure horsepower and graphical ability, there's little doubt that the console will impress. There are serious reservations as to Sony's online strategy (compared to Xbox Live) and we'll cover that in a bit. However, one aspect of gaming that is often ignored, but can become a major issue is load times. Ask any Sony PSP owner what annoys them most about the portable console and you are sure to hear about it's dreadful load times. Gamers are an impatient breed and if Sony frustrates hardcore gamers - and developers, for that matter - it could greatly damage it's reputation with the group that will comprise PS3 early adopters.
