Lack of server knowledge

In order to be a server, is there anything in particular I need to know? ( a particular port that BHD uses? ) Or is it as simple as clicking on "serve" a game as opposed to "play" a game? Not interested in putting up passwords, just want people to come play my server. I download some maps from bashtar.net and would like to try them out. thnx in advance

P.S. One more thing. why do I get a "sysdump.txtsaved" error when trying to enter servers sometimes? (or maybe even at other times, but happens mainly then that I can tell)
So I click ok ( the only option available) and I'm booted back to my desktop. I'm running Win. XP pr., with AMD 1700 chip, 768 mgb's of DDR, on a 60 GB/133 hard drive/controller

yeah it's pretty much does what it says. jus click host or whatver and u'll be ok. just check the host options b4 u start.

sys dumps is just df's way of saying somehting went wrong. u can tell what the prob is by checking when the sys dump happened.

if ur loading a map and it happens then u probably dont have that map (BHD) or terrain (TFD LW DF2 DF1).

other times it can be a driver issue (would happen each time) or u just need to reboot.

thnx again. any assistance in loading and using others maps, making my own , and hosting as server would be greatly appreciated. ( I know, LOl, I've printed the tutorials and downloaded all the related items ) Just got to sit down and try them out.
