Smoke grenades

Do smoke grenades in DFBHD, DFTS and extremes work on Ai persons.

Gods damn it all! Here I was thinking I had a Saturday free, and you come up with an excellent question I've yet to test, and now knowing of it, I will not be able to relax until I run some experiments...

ƭųƈʞꟾꬴꞩꝉוֹꞔꞣ$

Edit: Okay. I inserted a cargo container with one door open, put a somali militia 2 in it at the closed end, set his accuracy to 45 and 90, his alert status to red, and his attack/engage distances to 9m. In mission, I got in the container and approached until he started shooting, then I retreated. I tossed in a smoke at his feet, then approached again. He opened fire through the smoke and tore me up. I got out, powered up, tossed in all three smoke grenades, tried again. He opened fire through the smoke and tore me up again.

I conclude that smoke grenades have no effect on AIs.

Hi Seahawk.

Looks like the AI detects the player in a way that doesn't include detecting the visual occlusion and other possible symptoms and effects caused by real smoke.

I'd guess that's because there are no real particles to get up your nose and in your eyes. :thud:

By what I've said I hope you can gather that it wouldn't be easy to do.

It's probably even harder to apply it to AI than it is to Human avatars.

Possible Solution?

Use flashbangs for enclosed takedowns...

Thanks.

Hi there Seahawk I've got a possible programming solution for you.

You could trigger the smoke with an area trigger.

(in this case you could say it would act like a tripwire)

Then reset the AI to condition "blind" and "green alert"

You could also set some of them to "berserk", to appear as if they're shooting each other in the smokey chaos.

This would be set for a predetermined period of time and may immitate the useful effects of smoke on the battlefield to some extent.

Good Luck :gj:

If a map is good with no dialogs, then it doesn't need dialogs.

Seahawk 01-01-2020 07:52 PM

So which of my maps were good?

Sry but I've been very busy and haven't played any of your maps Seahawk, so I can't comment on that.

I can only tell you that good maps are obviously maps that are not bad.

Everyone has different opinions.

Just make sure you like it yourself and it finishes.

You probably can't go wrong from there if you press on with mapping and keep in mind that not eveyone will like what you do but some will.

As I said the most important thing is to enjoy what you're doing, enjoy the journey, frustration is heightened by expectation.

Good Luck

Thanks, but as again, I've retired. But if anyone requests me, I may make more missions upon the request.

Posting that you're retiring but may make missions by request is hardly what you'd call retiring... :rofl2:

Just admit that you can't resist the force of mapping and get on with it...

My giggles have turned to twitches and my sanity is somewhere between ssn10000 and waypoint 23 :insane:

@ Seahawk
Congratulations Seahawk, I've done a little digging and found you've done a great job for the community here...

Since 2017 you've published 44 maps with thousands and thousands of downloads to their credit and many with 5 star ratings...

It demonstrates proficiency and profundity, also the popularity of your maps within the community warrants that you continue.

BTW it turns out I have played some of your missions.

They were Airfield Interdiction and Hostage Escort :gj:
