Operation Flashpoint 2 vs Arma II

I've been debating on getting one of these games because I am very into COOP. Anyone own them? I am not sure if both have MP lobbies still up any one know? Which would you recommend?

I've had the whole series from flashpoint on, as far as I know they were.

Operation Flashpoint
ARMA
ARMA II then expansions.
The operation flashpoint2 (operation Flashpoint Red River) would really be ARMA III as far as that goes.
They all had editors but not very good ones with only one terrain...the island (never changed)
mmmm, DF series is better in my opinion.

I've heard they were making a second flashpoint (REd River) but I have not got that.
It looks like it has a different terrain but not sure if the engine is the same. The others all had crappy Cardboard trees...yuk The games never improved for what I could see....sry this is my honest opinion.

RECOMMENDATION?
I would not recommend ARMA II so that leaves the Red River series or Flashpoint 2 :)

Why? They are sitting on my shelf as a waste of money (paid top dollars and was very disappointed).

Whoops, see they have Dragon Rising now so I would go for the latest one of them and definitely skip ARMA II but if you want to play DAYZ (zombie mod) you need ARMA II plus an expansion pack blah blah...

the population on arma 2 is about ten times bigger or more than all the OFPs combined.

The custom coop missions on them are far greater and involve more players than the limited player count in the recent OFPs

ARMA2? I recon (IMO only) DFBHD and upwards is better for movement and with objects you can climb or enter properly. Hated the cardboard bushes and popups in ARMA2.

Might have to give the demos a run through again. Hopefully one of them will go on sale during the steam winter sale.

You can count on that, IIRC the last christmas sale the combined ops pack (includes arma 2 and its expansion needed for the DayZ mod) went for $10.

it's probably worth it at that price :) and the DayZ mod is supposed to be very good for what it does.
My main problems with the earlier versions was the editor, the buildings are, on the most part with no interiors and cannot be moved, all AI programming was just Groups and Waypoint directives, no finer control over bots and object placement practically zero.

I doubt I'd be really into the map making stuff because I simply don't have the time to invest. I am just really interested in COOP on a larger scale.

I doubt I need to explain the level of my love for DFBHD(TS) or MEDding, but...

This is what I know about ArmA2 (language warning!):

Generally, the http://www.youtube.com/user/neddle69 channel is just Neil and Martin playing various games together and talking. They mostly play ArmA2, often on custom made maps, and I find the videos very entertaining.

I think ArmA2 looks great on video, and even if the mapping is limited, the AI makes NeverLogic's bots look like cardboard pop-ups on rails.

Anyway, Neil's "Chenarus Apocalypse" and "Escape the Dead" video series' are favorites of mine, and if you have a few days worth of time for watching YouTube videos, I'd recommend them.

Maybe an experienced OpFP/ArmA/ArmA2 player can watch a video or two of Neil and Martin doing their thing and tell us how well it represents OpFP/ArmA/ArmA2 gameplay.
