looks like a good system. I heard something about some intel processors not supporting virtualization that windows 7 uses, so you might want to make sure yours does. Other than that it looks good.

no virtualization is an option in windows 7, i tried to get mine to virtualize but my motherboard doesnt support it.
btw some intel boards do support virtualization |
im not going to windows 7 just yet, i usually leave it a year or 2 after an O/S comes out :)... shall be putting windows vista 64bit on it

man you have no idea how much i hate wifi stuff, i'm currently trialing wifi to my HTPC, i can just about stream 1080p stuff from upstairs to downstairs using a D-Link DIR-855 http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showpr...d=1452&subcat= yeah that's 600Mbps wifi :D and yeah i still hate wireless. actual throughput i'm getting is about 3MB/s. so general streaming is no problem, the HD sometimes it stutters a bit, but for transferring files is crap. fyi i find netgear, linksys and d-link stuff better than others. |
Hehe my brother in law is like you steve, he just wired his house with Gig-E, he's planning on doing that with his TV and burning all his DVD's onto his PC.
|
if it turns out that the wireless is crap (although for downloading my laptop which is wifi gets the same speed as my wired pc...) ill run a cable down...
have decided to hold back on the ram and PSU in the mean time, 650w should be enough for the system... |
im not sure if you already bought the parts but a suggestion i made to one of my friends was you can buy the step down to the E8400 and overclock it like 1.5mhz or around that i know its less than 1.7mhz and you will get the same thing for less money but compare the prices too cause that was a while ago im not sure if they difrence in price is almost none now but back then he save alot with that
