Capers 04-26-2006 05:30 PM

I eventually got it running on mine. I forgot to update my graphics drivers which is an absolute must

I'm still getting used to it, and it has been a few months since i played the original so it's hard to compare. I'll leave that to you Steve (would be appreciated).

Edit:

This is a very fast UK only FTP mirror:

ftp://ukftp.multiplay.co.uk/pub/game...ter/demo/win32

.enfo. 04-26-2006 08:00 PM

omg, that is fast, I'm DL'ing it now, my comp crashed at 450mb completed :/, so I played some BHD for a while

Mstenger404 04-26-2006 09:29 PM

i got it downloaded, i just played it for 10 seconds because my parents were home and im grounded from shooting games. so im gonna w8 till they go to sleep:fu:

Mstenger404 04-26-2006 09:52 PM

k my parents are asleep and i tryied it out for real, i turned the settings all the way down and it still runs like a pig :/ but my parents said that they'll get me another gig of ram in a couple of months.

Terry 04-27-2006 05:59 AM

started the download before i went to bed last night. got up this morning, got ready, went and had my driving lesson, came back, the download had timed out at 80% lmao, gonna try again now and hope i have better luck

Terry 04-27-2006 07:24 AM

6 flippin times now ive tried to download it from that faster link u provided steve, and it keeps crashing... once more ill try then i think ill wait for release lol

Mstenger404 04-27-2006 07:39 AM

i dint download from stevie's linky, i got it fom ubi demselfs.

i went through it with the settings up and that didnt help so it is the RAM that i need.

.enfo. 04-27-2006 07:47 AM

I DL'ed from gamershell, worked fine here.
I tried it, wasnt really my style of gaming, it was kind of like FSW, giving orders, overhead map was cool though, like bf2's commander mode :).
Anyway, i dont know what the settings were on cos i uninstalled it when i stopped playing, but it lagged a little for me, not a huge amount.
Also, when i exited the game, my desktop colours went fluorescent, :S.
Gas, try opening it with winrar, the zip file kept giving me errors

Mstenger404 04-27-2006 07:57 AM

one question, when i go ram shopping, does the ram have to be the exact same as the other ram i got?

.enfo. 04-27-2006 07:59 AM

Yep, most computers have ddr400, is that right ? :D

Terry 04-27-2006 08:02 AM

yup, most computers nowadays are using ddr400, tho some slightly older ones are still using ddr333.

Steve 04-27-2006 08:15 AM

just to confuse things... no u dont need the exact same RAM :)

use http://www.cpuid.com/cpuz.php to find out what you have though, as it is benefirical to match RAM. (small proggy, doesnt install)

Terry 04-27-2006 08:30 AM

lol 9 attempts now to download, 72% on the last one, balls to it, ill wait for the game. hope its worth the money ;)

.enfo. 04-27-2006 08:37 AM

oh, I always thought you did, hehe
How long has it been since the original GR came out ?

Steve 04-27-2006 09:07 AM

5 years i think

Mstenger404 04-27-2006 09:13 AM

i dont know what type of ram i have, how can i find out?

Steve 04-27-2006 09:18 AM

omg

-Tigger- 04-27-2006 09:59 AM

lol steve

i cant get this demo to work, but all ive heard is bad reports so far lol

Steve 04-27-2006 10:17 AM

most common comments ive heard are

"it doesn't look finished"
"can't even play multi!"

typical stupid comments everytime a company releases a DEMO

and

"its really laggy" / "can't play because of my gfx card"

...upgrade time :D

the existing GR community likes it though. strangely enough the negative things seem to be comming from CSS and BF2 players, which is not suprising because the game is so different.

to be 100% honest i have not played the demo that was released yesterday. so maybe it is pretty bad. but there is a lot of no brainer whining, like seen with most demos.

//edit - sry if this comes accross a bit defensive, it's not supposed to

Mstenger404 04-27-2006 10:27 AM

http://i38.photobucket.com/albums/e1...HISISMYRAM.jpg
it just sais ddr... no 333 or 400, can i figure that out with the rest of the info?

Steve 04-27-2006 10:34 AM

yes its ddr400, clicking SPD will tell you more clearly.

although you should be fine with 1gb of RAM

Terry 04-27-2006 12:17 PM

my setup:

amd 2800 barton
1 gig ddr400 memory
gfx 5950 ultra 256meg
17" tft monitor

u reckon thatll be comfortable? i dont like p[laying games on low lol

i ran it on low and high (anistropicativity (i dont know how to spell it) is an exception) and there was no difference in frame rate.
my specs:
amd3200-- 2ghz
1gb ddr400
RADEON 9550 256mb
19" monitor

i think its the ram i need then

i'm not sure that gfx card will work! :*(

Terry 04-27-2006 02:40 PM

it actually outperforms a lot of the 6000's. the one i have was the top of the 5000's and hasnt let me down yet so... fingers crossed :)

.enfo. 04-27-2006 02:43 PM

yea, demos are un finnished products, and updates are there for a reason :).
I'd think that should run well on your comp gas.
maybe my 2gig of ram helped me out with this game ?.

Steve 04-27-2006 03:04 PM

its more to do with board features, like versions of shaders etc, rather than pure performance. :/ afaik anything below 6000 deosnt work - for the demo at least.

.enfo. 04-27-2006 03:08 PM

what is a ATI version of below 6000's ?

Steve 04-27-2006 03:13 PM

it's kind of irrelevant. basically its the 9000 series (iirc), but the ati boards are not having problems with GRAW demo like nvidea is.

.enfo. 04-27-2006 03:25 PM

I agree, I have an ati, and I dont have any problems running it, and I have a really bad ATI card, x300.

-Tigger- 04-27-2006 04:12 PM

9800XT doesnt work, although i dont know if its the drivers (omega 4.10) or :S dont want to go to the bother of using unstable drivers for one demo

Steve 04-27-2006 05:24 PM

i just got the new Omega's which are 3.8 based on 6.3 cats, so i dunno where you got the 4.1's from! (link tho plz :D )

my m8 has it running on a 9800 pro, so it should be ok tbh

Scattergun 04-27-2006 05:42 PM

Yup dling it now i Reckon once i get my sound Device fixed and everything it should Fly on 2 x850's or my x1600Pro :D the 5950 should do well it is almost the same as the 9600/9800(128mb card)

Hey steve there are new Cat drivers out 6.4 :P

Steve 04-27-2006 06:15 PM

noticed that today, but i stick with omegas - not sure why tbh, i just have always used 'em. hopefully they will be updated soon aswell :)
