205c Editor - Events saving as (NULL)

I think I have some sort of internal problem here

I've tried different locations with different permissions.

Different startup params.

Investigated the VirtualStore folders.

I've tried turning off NtfsDisableLastAccessUpdate all with no result.

In Windows 10 Home
I used the 205c shim and all seemed fine with object and tile data view-able (thanks guys) but now when I make a new event in the Editor, it saves as a (NULL) event.

In Windows 10 Pro
No shims needed and all working OK
This is probably (but not certainly) because I removed it from the internet and locked it down at the Nov 2017 update.

A while ago, I noticed the TIOCoopMED was doing this, so I tried different Windows compatability settings and edits on events wouldn't save on any setting lower than "Vista."

Since I don't have the actual 2.05c MED installed at the moment, I tried to replicate this just now using the unlocked TIOCoopMED. That says "DFBHDMED Mission Design 2.05c" in the (I had to look this up) title bar of the MED window, so it's most likely relevant. Confirmed that compatability settings of Windows XP SP3 and lower will not allow newly added actions in events to save.

I've been using my MEDs without Windows compatabilty settings activated at all, and so far so good. Running the MED as admin and the NHQ MEDfix seems to have everything under control.

But I had to look up what the title bar is called... I'm a fifty year old headbanger with a family history of dementia, so that's frazzled me a bit. Can't help feeling that that's something I should've learned before now.

Hey my old friend I don't know about you but I just get the feeling we've been here with similar problems before... let's hope we win in the long run and solve it all.

In the mean time I've found a way to get it all working.

It involves installing the 205c shim and renaming the standard editor dfbhdmed.exe to dfbhdmedv205c.exe.

Unfortunately this means the functions of the unlocked editor are not present.

Guess what fixes the 205c?

Turns out it's the /d switch...!

Even though the 205c doesn't need it - well, it didn't in the past anyway.

ROFL
