New cell phone (plus question!)

Woot! Finally broke down and bought a cell phone- it's a Nokia 6010 :D

I was wondering if any of you who have more experience with cell phones know how to take sound files from the computer and use them on the cell phone. I want new rings, but I don't want to have to pay for them :D

If your provider has locked your phone (like verizon does) you'll need a data cable (probably from radio shack) and google to find out how ;)..

here is some info i guess: http://www.unlockme.co.uk/ :p

Jeff 12-18-2005 09:41 AM

let me know if you find out, as i have the same phone.

Steve 12-18-2005 09:45 AM

not really sure why it being locked to a provider would have anything to do with getting ringtones? :/

get a cable as Panth said (should have come with one anyway) and transfer them accross. simple as that

DevilDog#1 12-18-2005 09:46 AM

BestBuy is selling set of data cables for $9.99. Pretty much covers all the phones. Well, except mine, Treo 600.

So, I got a multi size SD card reader from Walgreens for $9.99 and a 1GB SD card. :D

i didnt really mean locked to a provider.. i ment locked in the way verizon does it, you can only get ringtones from there GetItNow crap.

Hellfighter 12-18-2005 12:30 PM

don't know about ring tone i have a stander united
Alltel Nokia 3585i

if your new to using a cellphone a tip save you money

1.) only call a after hours there should be a free time zone range for you, like 9pm to 6am if you like to call say Calif to New york stats best use the set free time zone, other wise you get charge like crazy.

For me:
most free time range:
Weekdays Monday to thruday night: 9pm to 6am.
weekends Fri-day 9pm to monday morning 6am.

charges weekdays
M-Th 6am-9pm

2.) don't text messages to others you get extra charges for it both partys.

don't know about sending images or other thing you may get charge for extra, i only have the basic plane. alltel

it very to what plan you using and service.

warning: don't start calling world wide ether most will charge you big time and out of state it counts what plan you are paying for.

me i can call after hours 9pm-6am free weekdays M-Th, and f-m 9pm to 6am on monday morning out or state.

i am paying a small amount extra 10.00 extra for the plan but in long run save me a lot of money.

go to the service and double check the plan you have to what it don't cover so you know not to do.

1.) you have a free time zone to make calls?
2.) is it limited to were you can call out to? state or country only.
3.) is there any hidden fee were you can get charge extra for like text messages and sending images to other's.

i can call all 50th stats free weekend long inside the USA and weekdays 9pm till 6am in the morning.

be careful ok. it can burn one pocket real fast, and don't start to share it with others, keep it in your hands all times or lock it away. seen people get bills 800.00-2.000.00+ from other picking it up to use in all hours of the day call cross country.

Nokia 6225

Nokia 6225

I think on one of those phones you can get an infrared or a cable thing and you can actually hook it up on your computer and use it from the computer. If you have the internet on your phone you can. Too bad for my brothers one it is seven cents a KB.It is an avarage price but I WISHED things have gone cheaper these days.

Chris_OJB_DF645 --Nice regards

Scott 12-18-2005 08:16 PM

Thanks for that living, i'll have to give that a try.

As for other ways to do it, you can get a data cable and go to hardwareforums.com in the mobile phone section and find out how to do it manually..

Dr. Bullet 12-18-2005 08:20 PM

Well, mine seems to be the only phone that doesn't have an easy data cable. The only one available is a special order one that plugs in through the battery pins! I would just transmit it wirelessly, but I don't want to pay for the mmode crap.

Scott 12-18-2005 08:33 PM

lol i had that with my last phone.. the ONLY phone probably at the time that was not supported by anyones software or data cables..

Hellfighter 12-18-2005 09:45 PM

cable for me cost like USD-52.00 or so.

Dr. Bullet 12-19-2005 05:09 AM

I'll probably just break down and buy it. I'm already tired of the stupid rings it has on it...

Jeeze, what a hassel. You should be able to pick up wireless signals without having to go through their service. Since it should automatically pick it all up anyway. I could transmit from my wireless card in my laptop straight to the phone. For you coders in here, get crackin' :p
