You should spend a little more time on them. they arent bad but they have some glitches that will tick alot of players off if they get stuck in them. And you should get rid of them black holes.

REason for Black hole

Making tunnels isnt the easy thing, because to get rid o the "black holes" requires thought where you have to assign the right blink to groups. so inother words if theres a 4 way intersection. That4way has to SEE the other 4 tunnels or they will be black holes, but you can still gointo the tunnel. Im also working on 1 more tunnel map.

u could just assign the tunnel to 1 group, then no problems.

Jack the Ripper 05-19-2002 08:55 AM

Stupid me

yo can do that? i thought they had to see different ones. Soyou can dothat? Pic below is a pic of skate or die made by razor

WAHOO!!!1

STEVIE U JUST MADE MY LIFE A MILLION TIMES EASIER! hehe, im makin a new map that has a tunnel spiral that goes down 40 m below ground. Then it just goes off into a maze type of thing with the tunnels ill put it up on here when im done.

Steve 05-19-2002 03:01 PM

no probs m8, sounds cool.

i always use 1 group, making too many is confusing like u found out.

Dirt*PR* 05-19-2002 07:25 PM

only for VERY SMALL tunnels, ya?!

for large to medium tunnel systems u will need to try to group it in parts to cut down on lag for multiplayer maps, ya?!
that was my understanding! also, avoiding long straight hallways or just adding some corners can be good way to section or group the tunnel.

personally, i hate long straight hallways in tunnel systems! but thats just me.

BTW...i'm not saying anything about ur maps here Jack. just making a general statement. i haven't looked at ur maps...i'm busy making my own right now. cheers.

Steve 05-20-2002 02:51 AM

my take on this is that you are totally correct Dirt but your computer doesnt draw what is not in view, so there will not be too much gfx lag anyway. do it if it's not too hard of a job but soon as u get annoyed i'd say quit!

yeah, dirt, you try grouping tunnes that go 80 m down, personally, maybe its jsut me, but i got confused :), got lostan had to restart my map then stevie gave me his little quick way and its worked perfectly.

Steve 05-20-2002 04:06 PM

i wasn't trying to sound cross or anything...do what is best for you mate. i was just giving my side of info from the way i was tought.

another tip: use "Layers" exspecially when making tunnels with multiple levels! Some good basic "layers" would be... trees, buildings, 2nd floor, roof, T1 for top tunnel level and T2 for one below that, etc.

Once Again... just some more ideas...thats all.

Jack the Ripper 05-23-2002 02:39 PM

Srry,

dirt i didnt mean to sound mean and ****, but uhm how do i do layers? i have no clue, i could use a littl help. :) , thanks for the tips, do you have aim? if you do my aim is josh892003

np jack...

do you have icq? that works better for me...but i'll add ya to my aol im also. for layers, click "Edit" at top, then layers.
then select a number and put in a name for that group to be called. then under item attribute screen, when u click on an object then click lower left window, to the top right there is a layer box...just find the name that you want to set that item to.

Layers are VERY GOOD for tunnels that have overlapping parts, such as different levels. this way you can make each level without trying to select each peice though all the junk that will be on the screen. only tricky part is when u get the the tunnel ladders/stairways cause you need to be able to see both the top tunnel part and the new lower one that ur adding to it...so u may want to add a layer like T1/T2 for those small two part peices. so it would just be those two parts on the map.

BTW...to only see only certain layers, click the layer key at top of screen beside "unselect all". only 32 possible layers though.
