poor puter.....

In May this year Lightning struck my
IMax2000 and shredded it it also took out
the lan chip on 2 of my computers and 2
lan switches...i.e. my fathers puter and my
puter...so i bought 2 pcix1 lan cards and installed
them ,yea...i'm back on the internet...
Sunday night after downloading a large file
i cme to my puter room and the screen was black
and the puter running i thought it went to sleep
butthat was not it so i tried to turn it off and it
would not shut off. so i turned off the surge protectot.
monday the pyter would not turn on. I riped a power
supply from a working puter and subbed it in and still
would not turn on tried a new power cord still nothing.
put the power supply back and put the cpu in that
puter and it worked....so my mobo is shot and no longer
in production and is unavailiable anywhere unless you have
$984.00 or so i found some lesser mobo's that wpuld work

moral to this is " buy an xtra mobo like yours before
they are no longer made and get 2 or more just in case
...its a shame to waste an 8 core processor....

I had to pay $109.99 for a USED replacement board for a computer at work (actually just needed a piece on the board) for a motherboard that was $39.99 just 18 months ago. I feel your pain. I was lucky enough to find one.

bigsmellyfart 08-10-2017 05:10 PM

re-

i purchased the board new in 2014 and in 3 years its obsolete
and not being manufactured. but it would not duel boot period. i got 2 replacements coming on Monday and the PCI-e x1 slots are more
appropriately placed on the mobo . wish i had the money for an A99 mobo
and the new 10 core cpu. A99 rocks and was a step in the right direction.
intell took several steps back and fell into the grand canyon with all chip sets after....

boo hiss on intel

bigsmellyfart 08-11-2017 02:23 AM

regarding 18 core,,,,

https://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...-639-_-Product

this processor will not fit an X99a mobo and its very expensive
it is a xeon processor mainly used for servers

bigsmellyfart 08-15-2017 02:23 AM

i got my Mobo's yesterday they are new not refurbished
if you have an FX8350 or simalar cpu that uses an AM3+
socket get a replacement mobo now before they are all gone

bigsmellyfart 08-18-2017 06:51 AM

didnt know this either amd 12 core and 16 core razin whatever and this is not server cpu's like the xeon is...if i had the money i would build one of theseyou can search " sTR4 AMD X399 " to find more stuff

now thats my kind of puter...

Goodness that stuff is getting expensive.

Guest001 08-18-2017 08:07 AM

Yep... pro grade Graphics cards are a steal at $14,000 or so now that bit coin mining is dropping off..

bigsmellyfart 08-18-2017 10:52 AM

yea its expensive but you get a lot for the price...
for now o am stuck with my little 8 core cpu
and 32GB ddr3 ram

bigsmellyfart 08-18-2017 10:59 AM

just a thought here check and see if they still make your mobo if not then check for something that works and get two of them or just one by the time you use that one up hopefully you saved enough to upgrade to newer technology cause technology of just a couple of years ago is being phased out so don't get caught with your pants down and have to upgrade now because tomorrow your mobo bites the dust like mine did....

i.e. " something that uses you processor..."

even if all you can find is a small form factor or mini atx mobo it will work till you get money for a new system with upto date tech...

Guest001 08-18-2017 11:31 AM

They don't make my mobo or CPU any more.

LOL

My system is just an ATI Radeon H7800 with 8GB of ram and a Core i5 2nd Generation CPU.

It still works and is clockable up to 4GHz without extra cooling.

Plays the new DOOM and Arma3 no worries... so I have no reasons to upgrade yet.

bigsmellyfart 08-18-2017 11:33 AM

i priced this stuff
$1100 for 8 sticks of 16GB ddr4 mem
1050.00 for 16 core cpu
350 to 580.00 for a mobo
nice gaming case 300.00 =/-
hdd i recomend a 12TB for system drive
and 2 more 12TB hdd's for storage and backup
that will push the cost close to 4k
so save your money.......

12TB are so new they are not at newegg or tiger direct
but they are 600.00+ bucks

Well, staying with a system like mine probably means I don't have the money to upgrade - well not to that level.

Too many other pressing issues asking for money ATM. :rofl2: :run:

So building my own systems is also the only way I can usually afford to do it anyway. :thud::gj:

like i said technology is changing... soon the older tech will no longer be availiable so i recomend if you cant aford a new system get a duplicate mobo like the one you have if they still make it if not and they are not available find a substitute that will use ur current cpu ans get the substitute so when ur machine craps out you will be prepared...soon there will be no substtutes availiable either and you will be forced into a new system purchase

a cheap mobo can keep you going for many years more...thats my opinion
i.e. get it while the gettin is good...
