Getting Pinged out

Hey,
My son makes maps and is able to play them, can also have another person in game and play. But when more than 2 people enter the room all get pinged out or punted. Is there a setting somewhere or what could be causing this.

Ping out

We are on Aol Broadband (cable)

Perhaps these maps are very heavy on the graphics side.
Do remember that the NW ping is not a "real" ping but an accumulation of your machine lag, machine resources and ping/latency.
Also, if there are unnecessary programs running in the background, they should be turned off...msn, icq etc.

What is the upload speed on that connenction?

wtisjr1961 07-08-2004 02:55 PM

Not sure of upload speed called Aol but they didnt know.
They said I would need to find a program that would read that for me. Is there a program you might know that can do this for me? They sent me to CNET but not sure what is best?

The upload speed is most important (and most expensive) when hosting. Also as player I suggest a minimum upload speed on 128 kb/s.
To check your speed: Do a search on Google for "speedtest" or "speed test". Make sure it's near where you live. Your ISP (Internet Service Provider) should really know the speed you're paying for.
You can check your TCP/IP setting here (more important than ppl thinks). http://www.speedguide.net/

Pings

Hey,
Thanks for your assistance. I did the broadband test to check the speed, this is my results.
Download speed is 1031528bps or 1007kbps
a 125.9kb/sec transfer rate.
Upload speed is 342117 bps or 334 kbps

What do ya think?

S MC 07-10-2004 11:07 AM

I think that's fine for hosting a server with maximum 16 ppl on.
Does the server punts ppl too when running stockmaps or customs with a .bms file under 100 kb?
Does the punting also happens when hosting is dedicated (means that the host don't play)?
Do you have any problems in other games hosting or playing?

Please post your PC specifications. CPU, Ram, gfx-card,router, OS etc.

wtisjr1961 07-10-2004 10:32 PM

I have XP and 2.8ghz pent 4 proc. 500 ram, 3d Intel extreme Graphics Dlink Broadband Router Never done the host not playing.
We play and host Dagger and Landwarrior and have no problem with them. Only in BHD. We can play in other groups and maps but when we host people get punted. When we try to host our maps only 2 people can play if anyone else gets in all are booted but me.
They are Mis files and some are 213kb in size. Does that help

S MC 07-11-2004 04:33 AM

Don't know about that gfx. Isn't it an integrated unit?

My suggestion is - and I really do hope NOVAHQ don't mind, else I'm sorry - that you go to DF Barracks http://www.dfbarracks.com/forums/index.php and search the forum. Make sure to read the "Delta Force Fact Files" first.

S MC 07-11-2004 09:34 AM

I think that graphics-chip might be the problem. Sure it can handle LW, but BHD/TS requires more power on the graphics-side. I recommend a gfx-card like Nvidia or ATI Radeon with a minimum of 128 MB DDR Ram.
Also, if you're sound is onboard you should really get a soundcard.

It is an intergrated video card. I have been looking at upgrading but i have no agp slot the video card is a 64 shared. I have been lokking at the 128 gforce video cards that is how i found out i didnt have an agp slot the brown slot. also being an onboard video I am going to have to figure out how to disable it too.I am still under warranty with my puter so need to be careful of what I do. I have a T2895 Emachine. Any suggestions? And I thank you for your assistance.

I forgot to change off my sons member name this is wtisjr1961

S MC 07-11-2004 04:13 PM

Don't want to break the warranty, that's for sure, hehe.
You can buy a PCI GeForce FX 5200 128 Ram but as far as I know, that card is based on GeForce 2 technology.
There's also GeForce 4 MX 4000 128 Ram and a GeForce 4 MX 440 64 Ram both for PCI.
To disable the onboard card you first put in the new gfx card (after turning the machine off, cut the power and make sure no static eletricity is present...but you know that, off course).
When you start up your machine you enter the BIOS to disable the "old" card/chip there.

I will check into that thanks
